WHO do you Worship?

Worship has been on my mind a lot recently.  We talked about in last week’s sermon and we’ll go there again this Sunday.  But what I’ve been reminded of again is how important it is to DAILY wrestle with the question of “WHO do I worship?”  Because when it comes right down to it, I find that in so many ways I tend to worship ME.  Even when I’m focusing on/worshipping other things, it’s still all about ME.  For instance, it’s good to exercise, eat right, and pursue good health…but is that the focus on my life?  I’m in good health now, but what happens if I lost it somehow, like so many have experienced at some point in their lives.  Would it be an adjustment?  Of course.  Would it be painful?  Yes.  Would I need to face that pain, grieve it, and work through it?  Definitely.  Would it call into question my core identity, my sense of personal worth, my reason for living?  It better not…or I’ve made it into an idol…an object of worship.  And that’s the key question to me.  So much of sin is taking a good thing and making it THE ULTIMATE THING.  There’s only one ultimate thing…and that’s God Himself.  Worshipping Him, through his Son Jesus, is all that really matters.  We get to do that in this life and in the life to come, for those of us who love HIM and know HIM.  Yet so often, we take a good thing like food, $$, sex, comfort, approval of others, accomplishment, etc. and we make it into something it was never intended to be.  And it’s a daily challenge and struggle to honestly ask ourselves WHO am I worshipping with these things?

Once again, these types of questions help us re-orient our lives and repent of our SELF worship:

WHAT GIVES ME VALUE?  WHOSE APPROVAL AM I SEEKING?  WHAT GIVES ME PURPOSE?  WHAT AM I LIVING FOR?  And on the list goes…

Once again, we’re reminded of Jesus’ words in John 14:6…”I am the WAY, the TRUTH and the LIFE, no one comes to the FATHER except through ME.”

Do you believe those truths?  Does your life reflect it?  Not just part of your life, but your whole life?  So, WHO are worshipping right now?
