Keep on Running

Our Student Ministry has been blessed the past couple of weeks as we have had “big bad Billy C” teaching from the book of Hebrews on Sunday mornings. Here’s a guy who loves the Lord, is a gifted teacher, loves students and brings the Word with passion! Love it… just wanted to share something he reminded us of this past weekend. As we were exploring chapters 11 and 12 we were reminded of the many faithful believers who have gone before us, have sacrificed so much and regardless of their situation, did not settle for less than what God had for them. The men and women of Hebrews 11 should inspire us and nudge us on in our own faith journey. As we consider the past and see God’s faithfulness in action over and over, we should again step out in faith with confidence knowing that the same God that called these saints to a “better country” calls us as well.
But as inspiring as these people are, they are not what we are to “fix our eyes on.” Billy reminded us of the fact that the people in Hebrews 11, aptly hailed ‘the hall of faith’, are examples of faithfulness… but the standard is Christ. Jesus is where our attention needs to be fixed and focused. He is indeed the “author and perfecter of our faith.”
Find some time today to stop, open up Hebrews 11-12 and remind yourself of our great heritage in the Lord!
And may we run our race with faith-fueled passion and endurance, encouraged and surrounded by ‘the great cloud of witnesses’ that has gone before us, fixing our eyes solely on the One who is worthy of our faithfulness.
